European Solar Rooftop Programme proposed by ITRE Committee as part of upcoming Renovation Wave

On 6 July, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) in the European Parliament adopted the ‘Maximizing Energy Efficiency in Buildings’ report. The report supports the massive roll-out of solar power as part of the EU’s upcoming Renovation Wave initiative in September 2020, including the launch of a pan-European solar rooftop programme. This programme would aim to meet the rooftop potential of the EU, which could produce approximately 680 TWh per annum according to the JRC and promote the deployment of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) and distributed storage. Ndlr : Rappelons qu’en comparaison, la totalité de la puissance installée nucléaire mondiale est aujourd’hui de 2400 TWh. Autrement dit, ce seul plan offre un potentiel équivalent au quart de la totalité de la puissance nucléaire existante. Et c’est de l’économie circulaire, il s’agit d’exploiter l’amélioration de l’efficience du logement pour en profiter pour générer l’énergie qu’ils auront moins besoin de consommer.
